I take for granted that I'm a female geek. Growing up, my parents always made it very clear that it was important to be myself, and I took that to heart from a very early age. As an adult, I found myself a partner who is an even bigger geek than I am (which I love, especially because my geekyness has increased from all the things I've learned from him), and have thrown myself into a career where I'm among similar geeks who are mostly female. Reading about other women geeks and the things they're interested in was wonderful.
